In view of the confusion that may arise due to similar sounding names of organisations and also since swaasthya means health in Hindi, here are some pointers to help you recognise us–

  HIGHLIGHTS

Swaasthya organized a charity event “Giving Back to Community” on Sunday, 5th of December 2010, to generate funds for setting up a community health fund.

 

Swaasthya organised the National Civil Society Consultation on Adolescents on 30th November 2010 with two co-anchor organisations- CHETNA and Smile Foundation towards developing approach paper for 12th Five Year Plan. During the Adolescent consultation civil society organisations from across 15 states represented.

 

11th Five Year Plan pertaining to adolescents was reviewed by Dr Geeta and presented by Dr Geeta Sodhi in National Civil Society Consultation on Adolescents on 30th November 2010.

 

Dr Geeta Sodhi participated actively in the session called “From pledges to action, a partners; forum on women’s and children’s health” by Swaasthya, in PMNCH & Parents’ Forum on 13th and 14th of November 2010.


Sure Start –Maharashtra, project is being implemented in Malegaon, a city in Maharastra in partnership with the local Municipal Corporation, with financial support from Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation through PATH India as an intermediary. The project has the following achievements.


(Project Managing Information System (Jan 2009 to September 2010))

Increase in early registration from 16% to 87%


Increased institutional delivery from 20% to 81%


Increased number of ANC undergoing 4 ANC check ups increased from 31% to 92%


Number of newborns weighed within 24 hrs increased from 60% to 100%


Decrease in the number of newborns given anything except breast milk as the first feed from 50% to 3%

 

 

Quality of Care commitment of PHS increased in Malegaon- through

 

Quality of care commitment of PHS increased- A mechanism of monitoring has been developed by Swaasthya where adherence to the QoC norms as agreed by all at the platform, are checked and shared at the next scheduled discussion. At the Quality of Care platform, norms governing client satisfaction were developed by Swaasthya in consultation with the service seekers and providers.


Institutionalization of maternal and newborn death reviews within the system and seeking accountability within the system. Maternal death reviews have been incorporated within the system.


Potential for scale up

 


        Director, State for RCH and NUHM showing his keenness to adapt Swaasthya’s tools for awareness generation on pulse polio in Malegaon and Malegaon Municipal Corporation (MMC) has been keen on hiring Community groups as volunteers for sensitizing community on pulse polio. MMC is also interested on utilizing Swaasthya’s expertise for developing IEC material for their Link Workers

        As a sustainability strategy, few components of the program were handed over to different stakeholders, community being one. It has been observed that Community has started seeking accountability on maternal newborn health from the service providers and has been supportive of ANC and PNC women.

         

         

      Towards the last phase of the MNH project in Malegaon, two major components of Swaathya’s Strategies- home visits are going to be handed over to Malegaon Municipal Corporation.

 

Microenterprise project Women owned Microenterprises – Empowering Women & Ensuring Health is being implemented in Tigri Resettlement Colony, covering 25,000 women.

 

Capacities of women group were built in the community towards being entrepreneurs through trainings, sessions and exposure visit to “Hope Project Charitable Trust”, a NGO working with Self Help Groups.

 

Women who have never come out of their homes are now prepared to operationalise a microenterprise.

 

New SHGs were set up across four areas i.e., Madangir, Dakshinpuri, Sangam Vihar and Tigri.

 

Strengthening ARSH: Journey Ahead, supported by Sir Dorabji Tata Trust (SDTT) covers 2,00,000 population of Dr. Ambedkar Nagar area in Delhi.

 

Skills building training for 289 adolescent girls were organised.


With a realization to include men into the programme to be able to create a more sensitized environment for adolescent girls, male component is being added to different programme elements.


Scaling up of clinical services is made. The clinic is operating for 4 days a week and the lab is working for 5 days in a week.


The film “Tigri Dharkan” is narrow-casted through local cable in Dr. Amedkar Nagar from 16th January 2011 onwards as a mode of communication and information for the community. Two episodes called “Apna Dharkan” were prepared. This programme provides power to the community as it is for the community and by the community. This film also would be a means of communication pertaining to health and social issues to the community.
