In view of the confusion that may arise due to similar sounding names of organisations and also since swaasthya means health in Hindi, here are some pointers to help you recognise us–

Swaasthya is involved in both grassroots work (intervention research) as well as policy level advocacy work.

Since its inception, Swaasthya has been working on reproductive and sexual health issues. Over the years, it has developed a reproductive health model that encompasses not only issues of reproductive and sexual health but also components that enhance socio-economic status of women and adolescent girls. This empowerment approach has resulted in improved health seeking behaviour of women and adolescent girls. |

The adolescent programme was informed by the findings of the ethnographic study
with adolescents of the community. It comprised of the following: |

» Communication Package to share information on social and reproductive & sexual health
issues |

| » Social Support to increase support for the girls in the community |
 |
An integral part of Swaasthya’s strategic framework for RSH is clinical service with the following elements:
- OPD facility for ANC, PNC, STDs, inserting IUCDs and general ailments
- Laboratory facility for UPT, blood sugar, albumin and VDRL
- Medicines
- Contraceptives
- Counselling for ANC, PNC, STD management, contraceptives, anemia
- Clinic based IEC
- Home follow up of patient and partner(s) (in case of STD)
Since April 2002, the programme is in its sustainability phase with reduced input and linkages with local facility.

Community based programming (community plays a crucial role in developing, implementing and monitoring programmes) which has made programmes contextual and sustainable Integrating socio-economic components in its programmes that:

» Address gender issues

Swaasthya has a multi-layered resource team. It comprises of the following:
- A team of trained and experienced Community based resource persons who are well equipped to function as
» Trainers
» Research assistants
» Interpersonal communicators
» Programme development personnel
» Supervisors of community processes
- There are middle level managers who do coordination and team management
- Senior level engages with the team to provide conceptual inputs
Each layer backstops the other. A panel of resource persons are brought in when required.
